Hi.

I’m Gwen. Welcome, I am so excited you’re here with me!

Boring and Basic Food is BOSS

Boring and Basic Food is BOSS

When we look out on the landscape of food blogging, and all the things that fall into place behind it (social media), it’s easy to get the feeling that we need to be eating extravagant things. That we need to have something new and exciting and interesting daily.

I get it, but I just want you to know that it’s total TOTAL GARBAGE. Well, it is for me anyway.

The truth is, in my house we eat really basic boring stuff ALL THE TIME!

We have the same thing often, we eat reworks of leftovers daily, and we sometimes eat tuna in olive oil right out of the can for lunch because we cannot be bothered to make anything.

I suspect you can understand this, because the truth is, even if we LOVE cooking we sometimes don’t have time or energy to cook. Sometimes we’ve got shit to do!

And that’s ok.

But eating healthy and feeling good in my body and mind are important to me, so I prioritize healthy and healing foods in the most basic ways I can.

I think this is the part that is important and worth thinking about. I think that we can sometimes get down on ourselves if we aren’t producing blog worthy meals (there’s a chance that’s just me) for our family nightly, and that can end up making me feel… well, not so great about cooking all together.

This might also sound like children complaining about eating the SAME thing AGAIN, or our own awareness that we’re eating the same thing AGAIN and maybe feeling bored or discouraged.

And in that tiny moment comes my own realization that if I’m feeling discouraged to cook, chances are I’m not going to.

And If I’m not going to cook, chances are we won’t eat the healthiest option available to us.

So, that’s why I’m writing this post.

To let you know that BASIC IS BOSS.

If you make the some version of the same meal everyday for a week, but you made it with wholesome ingredients that nourish your family and/or your body — you’re doing great!

In fact, my entire platform is based on the idea that there are people out there who are busy and don’t want to cook elaborate things — but that DO want to eat actually healthy and healing foods.

I am banking on the fact that you might be a bit like me and not have time to master perfection in the kitchen, and instead you want to have a healthy meal with your family or friends.

I think it’s great that there are a million blogs and recipes out there that tell us all how to make the perfect aquafab; but I also think it’s important to know that it’s definitely cool if you just have some version of the same thing many times in a row. (It’s cool to just have the chickpeas and ditch the liquid all together if you want!)

I also have this platform to challenge us to look at what and how we eat, and to make sure we’re feeding our body what it needs to feel good and strong and energetic.

So, sometimes it’s good to try new things.

Try and notice if your missing some colours, textures, or flavours in your life, and work on that when you can. It’s important to have diversity in ingredients (fruit and veggies especially) but it doesn’t need to be a crazy or extravagant event.

Try a beet, blueberry, and pineapple smoothie made with coconut water instead of your usual spinach/kale, banana, and mango one made with almond milk!

The point here is that while food bloggers and social media might give us the idea that we all need to be eating extravagant things with fancy ingredients every day; the truth is that we would be doing much better if we put our attention on the QUALITY of our food and ingredients instead.

A roasted organic chicken and some shredded organic veggies can become SO MANY things!

SO MANY THINGS!

So, let’s just work on that for now.

Especially if you’re trying to make new healthier choices in your life.

Keep it basic and simple. and made with colourful veggies and quality proteins.

Xox,

Gwen
